Protect Your Property

Larceny is the most common crime at 51本色 College. Larceny is a crime of opportunity and primarily occurs when the property is left in unlocked or unattended areas. In an attempt to mitigate the frequency of this crime on campus, the Department of Campus Safety suggests the following preventive measures:

  • Keep your door(s) when you're at home and when sleeping.  It鈥檚 easy for others to enter your residence without your awareness, particularly if you鈥檙e in a back room or have audio (e.g. music, video games, video streaming) playing.
  • Leave all valuables, particularly jewelry, at home if it is not necessary to have them at your campus residence.
  • Record the make, model, and serial number of valuables and keep the records in a safe place. It is also helpful to take and retain pictures of the items.
  • Consider engraving your property with your state identification or driver's license number.
  • Report lost keys or Pioneer One access cards to Campus Safety immediately.
  • Report any suspicious persons or activity to Campus Safety as soon as possible by calling 641-269-4600.
  • Keep all offices and workspaces locked when not in use.
  • Keep desk drawers and cabinets locked when not in use.

  • Leave all valuables at home if it is not necessary to have them at work.
  • Petty cash stored in offices or workspaces should be kept to a minimum.
  • Bags and purses should be kept locked up, and coats or jackets should not be left unattended with wallets or other valuables in the pockets.
